Hinckley and Bosworth Borough Council puts customers at the ‘heart’ of new web strategy

Hinckley and Bosworth Borough Council has launched its new web site, developed using Jadu Clearwater CMS, to support delivery of the Council’s vision which is to place customers at the ‘heart’ of all its activities and as a result, deliver excellent services.

An effective web strategy is seen as the primary access channel for customers both now and in the future. It offers the ability to provide services outside traditional office hours and allows the Council to deliver both value for money and customer focused services.

The previous web site had lacked the high level of customer accessibility required to support the Council's vision; was limited in its functionality and subsequently received some low feedback from customers through Govmetric.  Although the Council had been rated an 'excellent council' by the Audit Commission in 2008, the previous website did not reflect this.  To address this situation, SOCITM was asked to review the Council's Web Strategy and to make recommendations on how the strategy could be delivered and progressed to an 'Excellent' status.

Hinckley and Bosworth Borough Council selected the Jadu CMS transactional platform 'Clearwater' because of its ability to provide the accessibility and ease of use required.  This also meant that fewer editors were required to maintain consistency of content.

"We selected Jadu because we believe that the Jadu CMS transactional web platform would enable us deliver our web strategy and deliver a modern .gov website.  The CMS is easy to use, the interface across the modules is consistent and Jadu guarantees the accessibility of content to WCAG II AA"

Anne Jones, Web Officer for Hinckley & Bosworth Borough Council.

"Putting customers first is essential to delivering an effective and efficient web strategy.  This has become even more important given the budget cuts and resource constraints that local government currently faces. Transactional content management systems are key to supporting a 'customer first' web strategy and to delivering excellent customer service and significant efficiency savings.  We are very excited to be able to support Hinckley and Bosworth Borough Council in making a difference to customers and operational efficiency" says Suraj Kika, CEO of Jadu.

Key next steps for the council are to introduce Web 3.0 technologies with a greater emphasis on Open Data and the use of video to provide customer information.   Hinckley and Bosworth Borough Council will also be working with other Jadu Council partners across Leicestershire to develop web further functionality such as a common Google search across all sites.
