Rugby Borough Council to implement Jadu eGov Content Server

Rugby, Warwickshire - 01st August 2004 - Jadu today announced that Rugby Borough Council are to implement Jadu eGov Content Server for Internet and Intranet systems to help meet priority outcomes.

Rugby Borough Council (RBC) has begun implementation of Jadu eGov Content Server for both Internet and Intranet systems. Following stringent selection criteria, Jadu eGov CS was chosen over two other government specific content management systems.

Rugby, with a population of 88,000, is an important centre for business in the West Midlands. The development of the web site will provide local people and businesses with a resource for all council services in and around Rugby.

The Jadu eGov CS implementation is expected to move rugby.gov.uk from a SOCITM rating of 'P - promotional' to 'T - Transactional' - with integration into many of the Council new and existing systems.

Jadu eGov CS will be installed onto a Windows 2003 Server, already owned by the council to host their existing web site. Using open source applications such as Apache, PHP and MySQL, Rugby have been able to leverage the benefits and cost savings of open source, whist fully utilising their existing, supported infrastructure.

Suraj Kika of Jadu said: "RBC have been very innovative in their choice of systems -matching the proprietary nature of their [Windows] server infrastructure, with open source solutions...The final solution presents a near zero total cost of ownership."

Rugby will utilise the ESD Toolkit to aggregate and populate content into the new Content Management database.

The site will feature the forthcoming 'Jadu LifeEvents' module - which allows the creation of sub sites (or micro web sites) from within the CMS.

Effectively, subjects such as '/moving-home' or '/tourism' can be created as additional web sites, using webservices to display content as well as adding additional content not recorded in the main CMS database.

A go-live date has yet to be announced, but is expected to be before the end of the year.
