Kettering Borough Council launches new web based eGovernment hub for local people

Kettering Borough Council (KBC) has launched a new web site that provides local people with a ‘one-stop-shop’ for all their local information needs.

The web site provides an innovative approach in the implementation of eGovernment and has been delivered through a partnership with leading content management system developers, Jadu.

The web site currently includes over 1000 pages of new and relevant information and provides a robust platform for Kettering Borough Council to meet its priority outcome objectives for 2005.

"We made good use for the outputs from the LAWS project - ensuring that the site uses the Local Government Category List (LGCL) as well as the established Metadata standards... now that KBC have a completely eGif compliant eBusiness and web Content system, meeting our priority outcomes objectives is far more achievable for 2005" says Marion Goodman, Information Services Manager, KBC.

KBC's web site breaks new ground in delivering local government services by providing a high level of accessibility for all its citizens.

'The (KBC) website has been designed for 100% accessibility. We have taken every care to make sure it works and complies with standards to make the site accessible to all" says Suraj Kika, Jadu.

Its ease of development, and low ongoing management requirements, means that a dedicated web team is no longer required as any KBC staff member with word processing skills is able to maintain and update the system.

The web site currently provides the following capabilities with additional services and functionality planned in the following months.

KBC now publish job vacancies within the council as and when they happen. Registered users of the web site can submit their full applications entirely online and store their application details for reuse.

Planning applications for the past 10 years are fully searchable and newly submitted applications are published weekly on the web site and kept up to date.

The new site also features a hi-tech news section, a local events section, online forms and many other added value features.

David Cook, KBC's Chief Executive believes that the web site will provide a major benefit to Borough's citizens. 'This site represents another significant step forward for Kettering Borough Council in its quest to provide improved and responsive services for its citizens when, where and how it suits them most'.

Kettering.gov.uk was launched on Tuesday 29th June, with additional functions and services to be introduced in the following months.
